Dog Treats Without Chicken

What Is A Food Allergy?

Just like us humans, dogs can be allergic to ingredients in their food. It happens when the immune system overreacts to one or more of the ingredients in their diet.

Dogs are usually allergic to proteins (meat or dairy). Allergies can actually start at any stage in your dog's life but most commonly, they will start to present when the dog is less than one year old.

Whilst there is no cure, dogs with allergies can continue to lead normal, happy lives with the correct diet.

Can Dogs Be Allergic To Chicken?

Dogs can be allergic to chicken as it is a food commonly used in dog food and dog treats.

In fact, dogs can be allergic to any protein they have ever eaten. The most common allergies are those regularly in dog food such as beef, chicken or lamb.

Some dogs will be allergic to other ingredients, such as grain, soy or gluten.

How Do I Know If My Dog Is Allergic To Chicken?

If you suspect that your dog has an allergy, the best way to start testing is by contacting your vet.

They will usually carry out a food trial where you feed your dog a diet that includes just one or two ingredients and wait until an allergic reactions stop.

Non Chicken Dog Treats

Then you can slowly introduce more and more ingredients until you notice a reaction form your dog.

Taking up to four to six months, it's a long process but is effective in finding out which ingredient your dog is allergic to.

Symptoms

  • Itchy Skin
  • A rash, red or sore skin
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Sore Stomach
  • Excessive Wind

What Does Hypoallergenic Mean?

Hypoallergenic dog treats contain fewer allergy inducing ingredients which means that your dog is less likely to have an allergic reaction.

Hypoallergenic means that the product is relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. However, the term is actually subjective as you will need to know which ingredients that your dog is allergic to in order to find the best hypoallergenic treats for your dog.
