Healthy Dog Treats: Which Are Best For Your Dogs?

Here at Betty & Butch we pride ourselves in sourcing only the best quality treats with no nasties. We're dog owners too (it's the business was created) and we strive to bring you healthy dog treats to keep your dog in tip top shape.

If it’s not good enough for our dogs, it’s not good enough for yours!

We have lots of treats that are high in omega 3, contain glucosamine or chondroitin or colostrum or more. And often, it can sound a lot like gobbledegook, unless you know WHY these nutrients and vitamins are good for your dog.

So, in a bid to make picking the right treats easier, we've listed some of our top healthy dog treats and exactly why they're good for your dog's health.

Healthy Dog Treats

Sprats For A Shiny Coat

Sprats are a small fish that dogs find delicious. They make a great dog treat as the fishy treats are low in fat and full of important nutrients to keep your dog healthy.

One of the best things about Sprats is that they are an excellent source of omega 3.

What Does That Mean?

Omega 3 fatty acids are key in keeping your dog healthy. Your dog’s body doesn’t produce omega 3 itself and as a result, they have to be obtained from your dog’s diet.

Omega 3 helps to:

  • Improve heart health
  • Improve brain & vision function
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Keep a shiny coat and healthy skin

Grain free and no artificial additives, sprats are a perfectly-sized training reward or a treat as part of a healthy diet.

They are suitable for dogs over 12 weeks old. Read more about them on our blog about the surprising benefits of Sprats.

Beef Cartilage For Joints

Our Beef Cartilage is a delicious deli snack that provides hours of entertainment. It is 100% natural and air-dried to make it safe to chew.

It’s a tough dog treat that contains bone and is excellent for big chewers who manage to eat their treats in seconds.

Beef Cartilage is an ideal healthy treat as it is naturally rich in chondroitin and glucosamine.

What Does That Mean?

Chondroitin and Glucosamine help with joint health. They have the potential to slow cartilage from breaking down in the joints and to reduce pain in the process.

For dogs, the supplements can help to:

  • Ease joint pain
  • Increase joint mobility
  • Help promote joint repair

It is suitable for dogs over 5 months and great for senior dogs who may be more likely to have joint pain.

Puffed Chicken Feet For Dental Health

Puffed chicken feet are gently air-dried which helps to retain more vitamins and nutrients in the drying process.

Chicken feet are a great dental treat and are suitable for dogs over 12 weeks.

How does that work?

As your dog chews, the puffed chicken foot breaks up and the texture of the treat scrapes across the teeth to remove built-up food and plaque. They essentially act as edible toothbrushes.

Turkey Worky For Worm Defence

Turkey Worky are Worm Defence Herb-Strips that are made of pure turkey meat with a great herb mixture, that helps to strengthen the digestive tract.

What Does That Mean?

The meat strips contain herbs that have been specially chosen as the combination makes the intestines less habitable for worms.

Pumpkin seeds, coconut, fennel and thyme are known for expelling intestinal worms from dogs and help to prevent re-infestation. So it’s like a natural de-wormer.

They also contain rosehip peels (rich in Vitamin C to strengthen the whole immune system) and chamomile which helps soothe many intestinal syndromes.

Our Worm Defence Turkey Herb-Strips are gluten-free, without chemicals and preservatives. Great for a training reward or food filled toys like Kongs, they are suitable for dogs over 16 weeks.

What Does That Mean?

Colostrum enhances resistance to the harmful effects of pollutants, contaminants and allergens.

Rabbit Ears For Digestive Cleaning

Should the Rabbit Ears have fur on or fur off? The answer, is on!

Our Rabbit Ears have the fur left on to help clean up your dog's digestion.

What Does That Mean?

The fur on rabbit ears helps to gently clean up a dog's stomach in the most natural  and gentle way. It cleans your dog’s digestive tract by brushing away any food residue that gets trapped in your dog’s stomach. This prevents any discomfort from food that may have built up over time. By cleaning the digestive tract, your dog is then able to absorb more nutrients from their diet.

Rabbit ears also act as a natural dewormer. The fur creates a ‘brushing’ action which helps to filter out worms and eggs that are in your dog’s digestive system.

Slowly dried to produce a long lasting treat which will help keep your dog happy and busy for a while, they are made without any added artificial flavours or preservatives. They are suitable for puppies over 12 weeks old.
